The aspect of impeccability which particularly concerns our daily lives is knowing how exercising our freedom affects others, and avoiding the resulting friction at any cost. Occasionally, our relationships with others will generate friction and expectations. A fighting sorcerer pays close attention to his contacts, and becomes a hunter of signs. If there are no signs, he doesn’t interact with people; he is content to wait because, although he doesn’t have time, he has all the patience in the world. He knows that too much is at stake, and won’t risk ruining everything by one false move. ~ Carlos Castaneda, Encounters with the Nagual
Impeccability is defined as being perfect or having no flaws; incapable of wrong doing. In the warrior sense from Castaneda impeccability is to save or conserve energy. Recapitulation is a means of reclaiming energy and increasing personal power. Personal power allows one to be deliberate and precise with their words and actions. If these acts are repeated long enough, one acquires a sense of unbending intent, which can be applied to anything else and as a result they become impeccable warriors.
An impeccable warrior is one who functions from a point of extreme integrity. Integrity, as defined on Wikipedia, is a concept of consistency in actions, values, methods, measures, principles, expectations and outcomes. It is regarded as the quality of having an intuitive sense of honesty and truthfulness in regard to the motivations for one’s actions. The word integrity stems from Latin meaning whole or complete. When I think of a warrior’s integrity I think of the natural order of things and how each piece is dependent upon the whole. When the order of things is disrupted the balance is lost and the system collapses as is evident with the lack of integrity displayed towards the earth. Take away an essential piece of the whole and the structure is no longer able to maintain the strength needed to ensure its continued existence.
Buckminster Fuller, creator of the geodesic dome, says, “If humanity does not opt for integrity we are through completely. It is absolutely touch and go. Each one of us could make the difference.” The domes he created had structural integrity, Tensegrity, and if one of the parts were to break, bend or become somehow compromised all the men would fall and the entire structure could potentially collapse.
The only freedom warriors have is to have integrity and act impeccably. Not only is impeccability freedom; it is the only way to straighten out the grossly distorted human form. A warrior has nothing in the world except his impeccability, and impeccability cannot be threatened. For far too long most people have not been impeccable with anyone or anything. I don’t have to go over the issues or the concerns, these words should be enough to bring these hideous imbalances to light.
Don Miguel Ruiz, when assembling Carlos Castaneda’s teachings for his book The Four Agreements used Be Impeccable with Your Word as the first and foremost agreement. There is such an utter lack of integrity in the words of the world. Just look at politicians. To be impeccable with your word does not mean to not swear or to not say what some people perceive as “mean” things. The difference is the implication and the way the energy behind the words are being directed. Sometimes a statement is perceived as mean when it is really nothing more than a statement grounded in compassion meant to stop someone’s world in order to push them outside of their constructed and sometimes limited reality. To be impeccable with your word means to speak from a point of utter truth that is aligned with your higher purpose and to stand unwaveringly within that truth. To speak from a point of consistency, honesty and authenticity that does not deviate from your integrity is impeccable; speaking in an attempt to win people over or to make someone else look bad is not.
As examples don Juan told many stories about extraordinary events he had witnessed. He maintained that underlying each one of the prodigious actions of sorcerers, there is a whole life of discipline, sobriety, detachment, and analytical capability. Warriors place the highest value on these attributes, and together they constitute the state of being which they call impeccability. He went on to explain that impeccability doesn’t have anything to do with an intellectual position, a belief, or anything like that. It is a consequence of saving energy. The path of the warrior consists of saving energy; everything that goes against that threatens his intent to be impeccable.
Don Juan told Carlos that a warrior is able to emerge intact from any conceivable situation. When we cut our ties with our human form, nothing external can affect us anymore. Then the monuments of old Mexico are revealed in all their splendor and, at the same time, they take up position where they really belong: The place of silent understanding.
It is time for true warriors to return to the integral and impeccable place within the cosmic structure of our universe that will allow us to dart past the eagle to be free because the integrity of the spaceship that we are on has become so compromised and its people so destructive that there will be no going back.
