From the time of birth, human beings are bombarded with words that contain entire sets of cultural customs, theoretical paradigms, and oftentimes, deluded concepts. Entire realities are imprinted upon people and each individual methodically devises their reality in order to conform to these patterns through preconceived ideas and conceptual notions. These realities are the result of the words and definitions they have received. These words become thought forms and are upheld by most.

Thoughts have the power to create and we must be mindful of the thoughts we put out into the world. My thoughts are most associated with the power and beauty of this sacred earth.

I love the wilderness, the plants and creatures that inhabit this planet. In Robin William’s movie, What Dreams May Come, the characters created their reality through their thoughts. William’s reality was of creating beauty and since I first saw that movie I have held the intention to create even more beauty in my life in the manner through which he did in the movie, by making my thoughts my reality. To imagine flowers at my feet and seeing them become manifest at the next footfall. While living in Oregon, I manifested a Japanese maple tree. I wanted one so much but never purchased it. One day, while picking blackberries on the perimeter of my yard, lo and behold, a Japanese maple that was about 18” tall was growing under the berry patch. I transplanted it and it grew very big in a short period of time.

Rare is the book that comes along that is both a pleasure to read, as well as serves as a treasure trove of insightful knowledge into personal and spiritual growth. Lorraine Voss’s Becoming Awareness is one such book.

Early within “Becoming Awareness”, Lorraine mentions Carlos Castaneda and the books he has written. Some explanation is due to this mention.

We recently took a jeep tour through the bottom of Canyon de Chelly in Chinle, AZ with a Navajo guide. The canyon is not accessible without a guide if you are not Navajo except for a couple of places where you can hike down by foot, as we had many years ago. It was a beautiful journey as the 1,000 foot tall stone cliffs revealed Anasazi ruins, sentinels, and ancestors at every turn throughout this magnificent canyon.

Switching Gears

I now understand why it is so difficult to be able to trust in the flow of life because in order to do so, we must make a conscious choice to not allow our minds to control our every moment, our every thought. So what to write now? Writing a book of non-fiction is as big of a distraction as any, one that anchors the writer into patterns and stories that have, in the case of my book, already been recapitulated. While writing this book I had to recount decades of experiences and information. There was no other choice than to reconnect to the energy of all those stories. A warrior sees herself as a blank canvas and designs herself. She becomes open to the possibilities that exist in which to create her individual and unique manifestation of form in this world. She is prone to explore all possibilities, and while she dances along the lines of awareness that are already upheld by mainstream society, she remembers that there are always new energetic lines to discover and to create. We have tons of energy, we are pure energy. If we choose to recall and revisit past occurrences, we are simply feeding them which ultimately makes those past occurrences stronger and more prevalent. Who wants to hold on to old energy? To do so weakens and prevents us from being in the moment within the continual evolutionary act of creation or co-creation. You must recapitulate.

Early one morning in late June, Nayeli and I left her house to wander through the Sonoran Desert and harvest the luscious fruit of the saguaro cactus. The Sonoran Desert is the only place in the world where saguaros grow, and we are so fortunate and grateful to have access to this delicious fruit. We wore strong, sturdy hiking boots to maneuver through the desert brambles, prickly pear cactus, and the rocky arroyos. We each carried a citrus fruit picker, a pole that had a large wicker basket at the end. These pickers enabled us to reach up about twelve feet to retrieve the fruits of our labor. It also served as a staff to help us keep our balance through the arroyos, and as Nayeli said instilling a bit of fear, a tool with which to flick away any rattlesnakes we encountered.
