Old Age and the Warrior Traveler

At the end of his journey of learning, and almost without warning he will come upon the last of his enemies: old age! This enemy is the cruelest of all, the one he won’t be able to defeat completely, but only fight away. This is the time when a man has no more fears, no more impatient clarity of mind – a time when all his power is in check, but also the time when he has an unyielding desire to rest. If he gives in totally to his desire to lie down and forget, if he soothes himself in tiredness, he will have lost his last round, and his enemy will cut him down into a feeble old creature. His desire to retreat will overrule all his clarity, his power, and his knowledge. – Carlos Castaneda, The Teachings of Don Juan

In 2015 I wrote a blog entitled warriors and the four natural enemies. Today I want to talk about the natural enemy of old age because this is the era that many who have aligned themselves with the Toltec path of knowledge and awareness are entering into. I bring this up at this time because I am witness to a group of warriors – who I have done work with for decades – succumb to old age, and some of them are still in their 40s. As a result, I felt myself slipping into a state of perma-rest until recently when faced with the choice of acquiescing to the predator or continuing the battle against it.  Wake up call! The battle for knowledge and freedom continues.

Blue Moon – New Cycle of Awareness

Don Juan said that seeing was the crucial element in both the destruction of the ancient seers’ world and in the reconstruction of the new view. It was through seeing that the new seers discovered certain undeniable facts, which they used to arrive at certain conclusions, revolutionary to them, about the nature of man and the world. These conclusions, which made the new cycle possible, were the truths about awareness he was explaining to me. – The Fire From Within

All full moons are energetically powerful. They remind us that when we become too full with thoughts, ideas, indulgences, etc. it is time to gradually release so that we can move back to a state of newness, of emptiness. When we are empty, we begin to become full again, just like the moon. We are filled with new ideas, visions, intuitions; all of which allow us to become more attuned to ourselves so we can continue to move with fluidity through the monthly cycles of renewal and release.

When two full moons occur in one month they are called blue moons and they only appear on an average of once every three years, rarely seen more than once in a single year though this does happen. The last blue moon that appeared was on August 31, 2012. The next blue moon to appear is scheduled for January 31st, 2018. Tonight’s blue moon is very powerful on an energetic level.

Impeccable Balance

The warrior’s final challenge is to balance all the attributes of his path. Once he does that, his purpose becomes inflexible. He is no longer moved by a desperate desire for gain. He is the owner of his will, and can put it to his personal service. When he arrives at that point, the warrior has learned how to be impeccable. And for him to continue being impeccable depends totally on the energy he has accumulated. ~ Carlos Castaneda, Encounters with the Nagual

When a warrior begins balancing all the attributes of her path, she comes to realize that she never has to desire anything again because she understands that she has absolutely everything she needs through sheer force of will and her connection and alignment with intent. Thinking that there is not enough of something, or no time left to complete a task, or trying to change something is replaced by simply knowing that when we are so fully in the flow of intent that we have everything we need and there is nothing left to ask for. We take responsibility for our lives by simply aligning with intent, getting out of our own way, and allowing the nature of things to unfold. Power is and power moves.

Further Breaking the Mold of Man

The New Seers are the only ones who have the sobriety to see the mold of man and understand what it is; the pattern of every human attribute we can think of and some we cannot even conceive. We are what it stamps us with. ~ Don Juan

Two years ago I wrote an article called The Mold of Man. While diligently striving to continually expand my awareness on this path for more than 20 years I have come to find that there is no true mastery of it, only further knowing, a deepening of awareness and knowledge that can be attained through seeing. Committed to deepening brings more understanding and clarity, most of which comes from silent knowledge.

Freedom from Bad Habits

There are three kinds of bad habits which we use over and over when confronted with unusual life situations. First, we may disregard what’s happening or has happened and feel as if it had never occurred. That one is the bigot’s way. Second, we may accept everything at its face value and feel as if we know what’s going on. That’s the pious man’s way. Third, we may become obsessed with an event because either we cannot disregard it or we cannot accept it wholeheartedly. That’s the fool’s way. ~ Don Juan, Tales of Power

Denial. The state of turning a blind eye when current circumstances are discarded so one can feel as though it never occurred. The majority of humanity is in state of denial. They want so badly to believe that everything is okay just the way it is and with the exception of a bit of lip service in order to wow their friends through the initiatives they claim to take, they do little to effect change.

The New Seers

According to Don Juan, massive changes in energy are happening at the present time, which will inevitably cause the emergence of a new cycle of warriors. To differentiate them from their predecessors, I have called them modern seers, or seers of the new era. ~ Carlos Castaneda, Encounters with the Nagual

The Toltec Path blog has been up for one year and has visitors from over 80 countries and a growing number of subscriptions. First let me thank everyone who takes the time to read the content on this site and to those who offer their perceptions and ideas. My dedication as a warrior of freedom spans most of my lifetime and this blog has provided me with the realization that that there are a lot more of you out there than I had previously thought. Some of you may not utilize the syntax that is predominantly used here or associate yourselves with some of the predilections that are described her, yet you know in your heart that you are a warrior of freedom, a Toltec by nature, and that’s all that really matters.

Toltec Warriors

To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other. ~ Carlos Castaneda, The Wheel of Time

Toltec is a Nahuatl word meaning ‘master craftsman’ and this craftsmanship extends to all phases of a warriors existence whether it is through gardening, building, artwork, honing awareness, connecting to silent knowledge, writing books or creating the bridge that facilitates awareness between that which we know and that which we have limited access to.
