The Universe is a Giant Fractal

Patterns are maintained by consistently giving energy to a system of power. I choose freedom from the routines, from the patterns, from the human collective. My life is about walking each moment in full awareness, forever touching it, honing it and knowing it through the grandeur that is our existence here upon this earth. –  Becoming Awareness

I like to imagine the entire Universe as a giant fractal. Each component within the fractal is a pattern that constantly flows and becomes more than it is as it continues to touch the original pattern and while eternally morphing into something different and new.

A Dark Force

Sadly, we are up against a lot of challenges, distractions, perplexities, confusion, resistance, sadness, bewilderment, helplessness, and anger, as we try to figure out how we have arrived to the mess we’re in.

In lieu of all that is occurring right now, I am giving away a free chapter entitled A Dark Force from my book Becoming Awareness.

This chapter illustrates how the dark force, also known as the predator, infiltrates the minds of humans in order to disrupt, confuse, and dilute the natural flow and balance of life. I hope this chapter provides a deeper understanding to the age-old patterns of consumption, power, and greed that must be transformed and put to rest, once and for all.

Losing Form

…a profound recapitulation is the most expedient means to lose the human form. Thus it is easier for stalkers, after recapitulating their lives, to make use of all the not-doings of the self, such as erasing personal history, losing self-importance, breaking routines and so forth. ~ Carlos Castaneda, The Eagle’s Gift

The Nagual told me that when the second attention has to be called upon to assemble itself, all that is needed is the motion of opening that door. That’s the secret of the Toltec dreamers once they are formless. ~ Carlos Castaneda, The Second Ring of Power

Throughout his books, Castaneda discusses sweeping the island of the tonal or liberating oneself from the mundane details of first attention. This basically has to do with recognizing the mold of man for what it is and freeing ourselves from the mold. Doing so allows us to view the world from a new state of perception; choosing to go beyond states of conscious awareness of the first attention and entering into the realm of dream, second attention, or the unconscious. When we connect with second attention we are able to bring ourselves into a state of natural balance. When we integrate the first and second attentions, the second attention accesses new energetic frequencies, and the first attention then organizes the new information. This integration provides heightened awareness and acute perception.

the dangers of cultural homogenization

When we do not take the time to enter into silence we cannot know the mysteries of life. Instead we only come to know what lies on the surface. – Lorraine Voss

Cultural homogenization is an aspect of cultural globalization and refers to the reduction in cultural diversity through the popularization and diffusion of a wide array of cultural symbols — not only physical objects but customs, ideas and values. Cultural homogenization in theory could lead to the development of a single global culture and the elimination of all other, local cultures becoming the same. ~ Wikipedia

It appears that there is a strong push and incentive towards cultural homogenization or sameness in our current culture. This is sad because it eliminates cultural diversity as it seeks to eliminate differences between people and instead, coerces them into maintaining a one-mind, one-voice, one-world myopic view through hearsay. In spite of the notion that this is an all-inclusive route for conjectural cultural uniformity, it is instead a course that is detrimental, regressive, and fails to incorporate individual evolutionary progress.

The Sounds of the World

Someone recently said to me that Don Juan advised Castaneda to put a great deal of importance on listening to the “sounds of the world” thus achieving inner silence through them and then asked what my opinion or experience is on this aspect of the Toltec path.

I think the sounds of the world was discussed in Castaneda’s book A Separate Reality. Daniel Quinn, author of Ishmael and whom I have referred to in other posts said: “Once you learn to discern the voice of Mother Culture humming in the background, telling her story over and over again to the people of your culture, you’ll never stop being conscious of it. Wherever you go for the rest of your life, you’ll be tempted to say to the people around you, “how can you listen to this stuff and not recognize it for what it is?”

Fusion With the Emanations at Large

Seers maintain, naturally, that awareness always comes from outside ourselves, that the real mystery is not inside us. Since by nature the emanations at large are made to fixate what is inside the cocoon, the trick of awareness is to let the fixating emanations merge with what is inside us. Seers believe that if we let that happen we become what we really are – fluid, forever in motion, eternal. ~ Carlos Castaneda, The Fire from Within

The degree of awareness of every individual sentient being depends on the degree to which it is capable of letting the pressure of the emanations at large carry it.

As human beings accumulate experience, the band of emanations inside their cocoon begins to glow. In some instances, the glow of this band of emanations increases so dramatically that it fuses with the emanations from the outside. Seers, witnessing an enhancement of this kind, had to surmise that awareness is the raw material, and attention, the end product of maturation.

Attention is the harnessing and enhancing of awareness through the process of being alive. To examine what seers see in the first attention is essential for the warrior-traveler dedicated to freedom. It allows the first attention the only opportunity it will ever have to realize its own workings as well as the machinations of the mold of man.

Life’s How-To Guide

The thing that makes some warriors fight to retain their self is something unrelated to personal concerns. To belong to a lineage of power implies bonds of such a deep nature that our personality is annulled. In that situation, individual choice no longer exists for the warrior, properly speaking. All he can do is accept his destiny and fulfill the commands of the Rule; anything else would just lead to his extinction. ~ Don Juan, Encounters with the Nagual

Awaken to your life’s purpose, be patient, forgive, embrace pain, meditate, transform, transcend, go-within, change, release, heal, pray, focus, create your reality, believe, hope, be positive, do yoga, find inner peace, let go of desire… in other words become like everyone else in a spiritual way. There are guidebooks, gurus, classes, workshops and how-to-guides all over the internet including instructions on How to Become More Spiritual on eHow, rated as “moderately easy”.

Consensual Reality

The sorcerers’ revolution is that they refuse to honor agreements in which they did not participate. Nobody ever asked me if I would consent to be eaten by beings of a different kind of awareness. My parents just brought me into this world to be food, like themselves, and that’s the end of the story. ~ Don Juan, The Active Side of Infinity

In The Teachings of Don Juan, Carlos talks about ordinary consensus as the implicit agreement on the component elements of everyday life which fellow men give to one another in various ways. We come into the world to parents and others who socialize us by convincing us that the descriptions we agree upon define the limits of the real world. And that we must agree. This is social consensus, an agreement that we make to uphold a single reality that consists of one limited way of seeing the entire world.

What do you Cling to?

But why? Why do you need prophets to tell you how you ought to live? Why do you need anyone to tell you how you ought to live? ~ Daniel Quinn

It’s getting harder and harder for me to write anything. I have come to realize through my many journeys and numerous life experiences that the more I come to know the less I actually know. This is a good thing, a very good thing. For me, it provides me with the satisfaction that I am succeeding in the choices that I have made to fully be myself on a path of freedom, free from the patterns and expectations, content to just observe this amazing world unfold. I don’t have as many opinions anymore because I have come to know that everything is true, right and correct, at least from the perspective of the person who holds those beliefs. And that’s okay; it is, after all, their world and we can’t possibly know what they’ve been through or what they are doing to maintain it. And unless they ask, there is nothing we can tell ‘em.

The Trap of Ignorance

Today is Ash Wednesday and the first day of Lent. Wikipedia defines Ash Wednesday as the “Christian practice of placing ashes on the foreheads of adherents as a sign of mourning and repentance to God” and Lent as “a time of sacrifice for Jesus”. I didn’t know that this religious holiday was today until a 20 year-old came into my office with ashes on her forehead and lamented that she is giving up chocolate, again, for Lent and expressed how much this pains her. So I asked her, “why”?

She was surprised by the question and said, well, um, because I like chocolate a lot. “Yes,” I said, “but why are you giving it up?” Well, um, because you’re supposed to give up what you like the most for Lent. “Yes, but why?” Well, um, so you can appreciate it more after 40 days of not having it. “Okay, but why are you doing this? I mean, what is the purpose of Lent, why was it created?” Well, um, I don’t really know but it’s part of my faith and that’s how I grew up. “So you just do it because that’s what’s always been done?” Well, um, yeah, I guess so. I suggested she just keep eating chocolate, Jesus would probably be happier to know she was enjoying herself.
