True Knowing Comes from Silence

“The main thing is that you realize that there is no such thing as ‘the teachings of Castaneda’. I just try to be direct and to act from my silence – a course of action which I recommend for you, because it does away with madness…If you want to verify the tales of power, you have to open up to experience. Don’t shield yourself behind your interpretations, because in spite of all our studies as modern, ordinary men, we know very little about the world.” ~ Carlos Castaneda, Encounters with the Nagual

Even though Carlos and Don Juan talked about specific practices that must be done in order to achieve certain goals, they empowered others to have their own experiences by connecting with silence – with the abstract. They put a lot of effort into ensuring that the path of freedom didn’t turn into a conventional or traditional path. One of my benefactors worked in the same manner. While imparting his wisdom and even traditional knowledge to me, he always encouraged me to work from my own vision. To verify things for myself and to avoid accepting another person’s words at face value.

no points to defend

The characteristic of miserable seers is that they are willing to forget the wonder of the world. They become overwhelmed by the fact that they see and believe that it’s their genius that counts. A seer must be a paragon in order to override the nearly invincible laxness of our human condition. More important than seeing itself is what seers do with what they see. ~ Don Juan, The Fire from Within

Warriors marvel at the wonder of the world. They marvel at the beauty and they marvel at the insanity. They do what they do for the love of doing it. They cry, they laugh, they know compassion, forgiveness, love, wonder, awe, fear, and sadness. They sense with every ounce of their being every single sensation or feeling that arises. It is all of these wonders and feelings that bring total awareness to a warrior. To deny yourself of that which arises is avoidance; to become attached to it is foolishness.

Beginning Again

Trust and surrender. Be in the flow. Raise your vibration. Heighten your awareness. Live authentically. Dream a new dream. Create your reality.

These are all wonderful thoughts, exquisite goals. There are multitudes of books, courses, seminars, and workshops available in the world for you to learn how to do these things. You can listen to tapes and watch videos and read every book that has ever been written in order to learn everything you need to know in preparation for this endeavor. But once you have all of the required knowledge will you actually make the choice to follow through?

Have you stopped to consider how our connection with the Earth facilitates the awakening of our vibrational frequencies, brings us to states of higher consciousness and into realms of deeper awareness. Sitting within silence allows us to become empty vessels through which the Spirit may flow. With our minds empty our thoughts become pure and our awakening reunites us with our connection with the universal life-force energy (intent) where we are able to witness the oneness of creation. When we witness the magical beauty of creation we are able to align with the silent flow of primal energy, thus leading to our own creative evolution.

I Have No Thoughts So I Will See

I am already given to the power that rules my fate.
And I cling to nothing, so I will have nothing to defend.
I have no thoughts, so I will see.
I fear nothing, so I will remember myself.
Detached and at ease,
I will dart past the Eagle to be free.
~ Carlos Castaneda, The Eagle’s Gift

I am already given to the power that rules my fate. Power is and power moves. This power, this energy, is an incomprehensible aspect of the eagle’s emanations which, when surrendered to, ensures our existence within this vital flow of energy while simultaneously enhancing our overall awareness. It is nearly imperative to live within a constant state of gratitude for the precious life-force energy/emanations that flow to us continuously from the eagle.

Don Juan reminds us that we must do more than just appreciate this energy flow. We must assume responsibility for it by going to war with ourselves in a fierce and endless battle to conserve and preserve this energy. Ever struggling against the monster of self-importance is what leads to a warrior’s impeccability. Clinging to nothing; defending nothing.

Creative Conscious Evolution

For don Juan, sorcery was the act of embodying some specialized theoretical and practical premises about the nature and role of perception in molding the universe around us. ~ Carlos Castaneda, The Art of Dreaming

Evolution begins with inner silence. When we take the time to sit in stillness and connect with the earth we begin to connect to the intricate energetic web of the universe of which we are all a part; of which we emerged! To evolve, one must have command over the totality of oneself. This means that you encounter power by removing yourself from the concerns of the “group mind” and replace them with decisions of power and strategies that bring you to awareness. It involves practicing silence to overcome the domestic condition of having membership in a social group and removing yourself as a hostage in another person’s inventory with an obligation to uphold an image before others. You are an autonomous, individual who has come to realize that your next step is to liberate and evolve your consciousness. If you choose not to, you may remain stuck within a loop of repeating patterns over and over again.

Those of you who place a higher value on your own perceptions than on the interpretations of others have access to more informational awareness that is interconnected with the true alignment of intent than the mostly faulty descriptions of reality that have been provided to you.

Sonoran Desert Magic

Buddha Rock, Sonoran Desert ~ Photo by FW

It is a sublime feeling,” he said, “to be in this marvelous desert, to see those ragged peaks of pseudo-mountains that were really made by the flow of lava of long-gone volcanoes. It is a glorious feeling to find that some of those nuggets of obsidian were created at such high temperatures that they still retain the mark of their origin. They have power galore. To wander aimlessly in those ragged peaks and actually find a piece of quartz that picks up radio waves is extraordinary. The only drawback to this marvelous picture is that to enter into the marvels of this world, or into the marvels of another world, a man needs to be a warrior: calm, collected, indifferent, seasoned by the onslaughts of the unknown. ~ Don Juan, speaking about the Sonoran Desert, The Wheel of Time

While driving through the Sonoran Desert last weekend I snapped this photo of the Buddha rock. I’ve driven past this natural monument countless times and never stopped to take a photo of it before.  Towering above everything else, the Buddha is an example of the constant magic unfolding in this extraordinary desert.

The Importance of Silence for Warriors

Silence is a passageway between worlds. When our mind stays silent, incredible aspects of our being emerge. Starting from that moment, a person becomes a vehicle of intent, and all his acts begin to ooze power. ~ Carlos Castaneda, Encounters with the Nagual

Don Juan affirmed that we spend our lives regurgitating an endless list of opinions on almost everything. We receive thoughts in clusters; one connects with the other one, until the entire space of the mind is packed full. That noise has no use, because, practically in its entirety, it is devoted to the enlargement of the ego.

Most people are no longer willing to be silent. They want to fill their lives with noise and activity, to listen to something or to say something or to do something. Cell phones, computers, iPods, video games, noisy cars, trains, airports, television, night-clubs, shopping malls, the endless drone of incessant chatter, email, social networks; all contribute to the constant bombardment of incoming stimuli. External stimulation is taking its toll and serving to disconnect people from the power of silence and the source of all things.

Expanding Beyond Paradigms

The ancients started with an understanding that we are transitory, but they allowed themselves to become corrupted by seductive ideas of survival. As a result, they were filled with self-importance and lapsed into exclusivity. The new seers discontinued all that by giving the fluidity of the assemblage point first priority. They had observed that, as soon as that point moves, the idea of secrecy changes into idiocy, because in the realm of energy there are no rigid limits between conscious beings. In consequence, what became most important for them was to get rid of all speculation and emphasize the practical side of the path. ~ Carlos Castaneda, Encounters with the Nagual

The exclusivity of the sorcerers’ party in the Castaneda paradigm basically became their demise as they attempted to remain in isolated separation from the rest of the world. They diligently worked at honing their skills towards connecting more deeply with intent and silent knowledge for their goal of ultimate freedom but guarded it intensely as though they had been carefully chosen to be the sole warriors of awareness from a long lineage that preceded them. They lived within a concept that they called “the Rule” and were dedicated to a tradition of people of knowledge that stretched back thousands of years, however, they were extremely private and believed that everything outside of the strict adherence to the teachings was a waste of time. And then when Carlos left this world his party disappeared completely!

The Boost of the Earth

Mother Earth has always been a living being to me, from which we are all born. My path and journey have always included time in nature and when asked by others, my advice has always been to “give energy to the earth, even the negativity; she will transform it and utilize it.” Through increased energy and heightened awareness, working with sacred plant medicines and visions I have come to recognize that mother earth has her own awareness and consciousness far beyond my previous, limited perceptions of what she held.

While taking a 10 mile roundtrip hike to a nearby mountain recently my attention was focused on the earth in a new way. My last blog entry on moving the assemblage point of the earth has been in my mind for quite some time and as a result my own assemblage point has shifted. My connection with the earth has always been one of respect and honor and has recently become one of utter profundity as my understanding of her complexity, intricacy and insightfulness increases.

The Power of Silence

You must reach the point where you understand what intent is. And, above all, you must understand that that knowledge cannot be turned into words. That knowledge is there for everyone. It is there to be felt, to be used, but not to be explained. One can come into it by changing levels of awareness, therefore, heightened awareness is an entrance. But even the entrance cannot be explained. One can only make use of it. ~  Carlos Castaneda, The Power of Silence

This quote, from the book The Power of Silence is one of my favorite quotes. So many people hunger for the words, as if by hearing them they could have the ultimate experience or make sense of why such and such is so and so. My journey has provided me with the ability to discern that which can be talked about and that which cannot. And as each day passes it gets more and more difficult to discuss anything.
